Jan 10/09 - Vinyl sales, releases and anniversary

The holiday season has come and gone, hope yours was happy, filled with good cheer and great music. The "big" sellers that the industry hoped would keep it viable flopped at my store. Albums by Guns n Roses, Nickleback, AC/DC did unexpectedly poor sales while classics like the Band's "Music From Big Pink", Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" and both of Jimi Hendrix's "Axis..." & "Are You Experienced" literally flew off the shelf.

Beatles lps seemed to be highest in demand to my delight being a huge Beatles fan myself. How cool that the younger generation is discovering a band that basically called it quits 40 years ago. I had many parents in with want lists from their kids and by and large all requests were classic rock.

On the new release front, Neil Young's "Live at Massey Hall" is finally available on a 200 gram/2 lp set. With the release delayed four times, pent up demand for this solo acoustic set was very high and I am down to my last few copies from my first shipment. British pressings of Cannonball Adderly's "Something Else" sold out in three days. Blue note records 70th anniversary is 2009 and to mark this occasion, they are releasing 7 or 8 titles on Vinyl with a cd for your car packages at a relatively resonable price. My question is; Are the lps made from the same digital master as the cd?

I'll be carrying some of these titles for a short while so stay tuned.
I plan on trying to add a lot of store stock to the web site in 2009 so please check back often.

Feb marks the store's 15th anniversary in Port Credit and 20 years of doing business as Ric's Recollections. If possible, I will run a few specials in the end of Feb or early March so keep listening to great tunes and support independent stores !!
